New Delhi, Jan 31 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Monday that remarks of Home Minister P. Chidambaram on selection of Central Vigilance Commissioner P.J. Thomas vindicated senior party leader Sushma Swaraj’s stand that the government had infomation about the palmolien case pending against Thomas.BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said Chidambaram’s briefing to journalists had confirmed the position that Swaraj had taken at the meeting of the selection committee on CVC.
“A detailed discussion indeed took place on the Palmolein case and the chargesheet against P. J. Thomas,” she said.
Sitharaman said Sushma Swaraj had suggested that any of the other two names on the panel could be chosen for the CVC’s post.
She said the government remained adamant on choosing Thomas and Sushma Swaraj was constrained to give in writing that she disagreed with the choice.
Chidambaram said Monday that allegations against Thomas were discussed in the September meeting of the selection committee which included him, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sushma Swaraj.
