Chidambaram gets poll panel noticeApril 5th, 2009 - 2:22 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, April 5 (IANS) The Election Commission Sunday issued notice to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram for offering electoral incentives in Rajasthan in violation of the model code.
The poll panel has asked Chidambaram to reply to its notice by Monday.
The home minister had held a meeting with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot late last month to discuss security-related issues.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its complaint to the poll panel says the minister, with the Lok Sabha polls in mind, made announcements about granting citizenship to displaced Hindus from Pakistan living in the state and additional facilities for passengers travelling by the Thar Express to Pakistan.
