Chhattisgarh orders NREGS wage payment
October 16th, 2009 - 10:15 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Oct 16 (IANS) Following reports that workers had not been paid for months, the Chhattisgarh government Friday reviewed the progress of the central government’s flagship scheme, the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and directed that wages be cleared within a fortnight.
In a review meeting through video-conferencing, D.S. Mishra, principal secretary, panchayat and rural development, asked the chief executive officers (CEOs) of district panchayats to ensure that workers payment under NREGS were made within 15 days.
Government officials say instructions for clearing workers’ dues were issued in wake of reports from interiors of the state that workers had not be paid for months.
Mishra asked the collectors and CEOs to take to task officials of the NREGS implementing agencies if they failed to pay the wages within 15 days.
