Chennai continues to rally in support of Anna (Lead)

Chennai, Aug 20 (IANS) The fifth day of the agitation Saturday in support of Anna Hazare’s demand for a stronger Lokpal bill was marked by continued fasts, a procession, a bikers’ rally and visits of school students in this Tamil Nadu capital.

According to India Against Corruption (IAC), the outfit which is supporting Hazare, the total number of people on indefinite fast increased by five to 41, including those who have continued their hunger-strike for over 100 hours since Tuesday.

In the morning, around 100 people came to the fast venue at Adyar.

Around 200 people on their bikes, accompanied by several cars and vans, went on a rally around the capital city from the Labour statue on the Marina Beach.

Around 80 schoolchildren, carrying placards in support of Hazare, shouted slogans at the venue.

Hazare began his fast Tuesday when he was taken to the Tihar Jail and released the same day — but he refused to move out. He came out of the prison Friday and continued his fast at the Ramlila Ground in Delhi.
