Change cannot take place without peoples support: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
April 22nd, 2009 - 5:48 pm ICT by admin ( Leave a comment )On her first day of campaigning for her mother in Raebareli, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra appealed to the people to be ‘selfish’ on voting day. She asked them to elect an MP who would care for the development of Raebareli. “Think for the country. Will you support a party which divides people on the basis of caste and community or for the party which talks of development?” she asked. She told them to vote for a party which speaks for the poor & backward people, and for Dalits.
Priyanka Gandhi said that there should be development for all. “This is the time to elect a Central Government and bring about change in your lives. This is the time for your constituency to move forward. I will only tell you to show awareness this time, just like you have shown in the last two elections,” she said. Praising the strength of common people she said, “When people understand their right, their power, they can easily make a change in their lives and build a good future for their children.”
Talking about the contribution of Raebareli in India’s freedom movement, she said, “Your constituency has been well known since the freedom struggle. Raebareli has produced numerous freedom fighters and many movements took off from this land.” She cited Mahatma Gandhi’s path for change and said that such a big empire could not have been defeated without the support of people. “Come forward and beckon change in your life. Time and context has changed but the means of change has not changed,” she said.
She appealed to all present to come out in large numbers on voting day and support Congress President. She said, “This is very important, you have shown it earlier. This is your responsibility towards your constituency and your children. This is the time of harvesting and temperature has zoomed up but make sure you take time put to cast your votes.”
Priyanka Gandhi said that by ensuring that Soniaji wins by a large margin, they will only decide their future and the future of Raebareli. “You have witnesses that Soniaji does not need campaigning, her work speaks volumes. Send a message to the countrymen as to how conscious people can bring change in their lives.”
