Thiruvananthapuram, March 2 (IANS) Kerala’s opposition Congress leader Oommen Chandy Wednesday wrote to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan demanding a probe into allegations that his son Arunkumar had taken bribes from the sandalwood mafia.

Chandy’s seven-page letter to Achuthanandan was in response to a remark by the chief minister last week that he will order an investigation if Chandy wrote to him on the issue.

Chandy has demanded a detailed probe into all the allegations against the chief minister’s son. The letter was handed over to Achuthanandan’s office by a special messenger.

“He has taken up the chief minister’s challenge,” a spokesperson from Chandy’s office said.

Achuthanandan had faced repeated queries from the media Saturday about allegations that his son Arunkumar had taken a Rs.7 lakh bribe from the sandalwood mafia in 2004.

The chief minister replied that he will order an investigation if Chandy wrote to him on the subject.

Chandy, in his letter, has listed out a number of allegations against Arunkumar, including his way of functioning at the Institute for Human Resources Development, links with the lottery scam and the bribery scandal against him over the Kannur power project.
