CBI questions Jagan’s relative
January 24th, 2012 - 9:31 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Jan 24 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday questioned Sunil Reddy, a relative of YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, in a case related to the latter’s alleged illegal assets.
The agency continued questioning Sunil Reddy through the day amid reports that he had been arrested. The CBI has not confirmed the arrest but said he was being questioned at Dilkusha guest house here.
There are also speculations that Sunil Reddy, a businessman, is being grilled in the APIIC-Emaar township scam.
CBI officials questioned Sunil Reddy at his residence and later took him to his office where they conducted a search.
He was then shifted to Dilkusha guest house, the camp office of the federal agency, a CBI official said.
Worried about his whereabouts, Sunil Reddy’s family members reached the guest house and met him. His wife complained that the family was not provided with any information.
Sunil Reddy is believed to be a key person in managing the companies owned by Jaganmohan Reddy, the son of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Jagan’s close aide Vijay Sai Reddy was arrested by the CBI Jan 2. It was the only arrest made in the case since the agency launched the investigations following a direction by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress party has condemned the manner in which the CBI is questioning Sunil Reddy.
In a statement, the party said the CBI had lost its credibility due to high-handed attitude and by flouting basic rights of an individual.
“This latest action smacks of political vendetta initiated by vested interests in power to destroy their political adversaries, even at the cost of completely subverting the law,” the statement said.
The party alleged that three CBI officers barged into the residence of Sunil Reddy and took him away without giving any information to his family.
