Nov 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Though Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council President Gaillot Dorsainvil said that CEP is comfortable with the whole vote procedure of the country, 12 out of 18 candidates have called for a re-election. The opposition front-runner Mirlande Manigat along with other candidates said that the polls were completely fraudulent as it favored Jude Celestin, the Presidential candidate. Yesterday, hours before the election, thousands of people marched in Port-au-Prince and demanded that the polls should be scrapped.
The United Nations mission in Haiti expressed their deep concern about the matter as it might lead to a bad outcome and dissatisfaction in the end. While on one hand CEP is satisfied with the voting process except few incidents. Pierre Opont, the director of Haiti’s main electoral body said that out of 1,500 polling centers 56 of them reported some problems and one people died in the dispute. Vicenzo Pugliese, the spokesperson of United Nations Mission said that presently all the partners are discussing what happened and what will happen and the Haiti citizens are waiting for the outcome.
On the other hand, lead candidate Mirlande Manigat told a reputed media source that she has asked the citizens of the country, the Conseil Electoral Provisoire, Government of Haiti and the international community to cancel the election. Even her campaign manager said that there have been irregularities in the campaign management and at the same time ballot boxes have been stuffed in favor of Jude Celestin. Michel Martelly, another candidate said that the election was a “massive fraud” all over the country. Not only the candidates, the citizens have also demanded for pure and simple annulment of election.
