David Cameron London, Aug 11 (IANS) In the wake of arson and rioting which rocked parts of England earlier this week, British Prime Minister David Cameron Thursday vowed to end the “climate of fear” and announced a 10 million-pound package to deal with the damages.

Addressing the House of Commons, Prime Minister Cameron said the recovery scheme will help local councils to deal with the damage caused by rioting in towns and cities, Sky News reported.

He described the riots as “criminality pure and simple”.

He said that “keeping people safe is the first duty of government” and added that “young people stealing and looting is not about politics, it is about theft”.

Cameron revealed that more than 1,200 people have been arrested across the country.

He admitted that at the start of the trouble there had been “far too few” police officers deployed and tactics they used had not worked, the broadcaster said.

The riots broke out Aug 6 following a fatal shooting of a man by police Aug 4. The unrest quickly spread to other cities in the country.
