Bypoll to 3 Karnataka assembly seats April 9

Bangalore, March 12 (IANS) Three Karnataka assembly constituencies will go to polls on April 9 to fill vacancies created by the resignation of two Congress and one Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) legislators, the election commission announced Saturday.
The constituencies are Chennapatna, Jagalur (reserved for Scheduled Tribes) and Bangarapet (reserved for Scheduled Castes). Chennapatna was represented by the JD-S and the other two by Congress.
All three legislators resigned in October last year and have since aligned with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Election Commission said though the polling would take place on April 9, counting of votes will be on May 13 along with the counting of votes of assembly polls in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.
The formal notification will be issued on March 16 starting the process of filing nominations. Last date for withdrawals is March 26.
