By-election to Tripura assembly seat May 28April 24th, 2009 - 2:26 pm ICT by IANS
Agartala, April 24 (IANS) The Election Commission Friday announced by-election to the Bordowali assembly seat in western Tripura May 28.
“The formal notification for the by-election would be issued May 4,” said Sanjeev Ranjan, chief electoral officer of Tripura.
The prestigious assembly constituency was left vacant following the death of sitting Congress legislator and former Tripura chief minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumder Jan 4.
Both ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and opposition Congress have been trying to wrest the politically important assembly seat in the Tripura capital Agartala.
