Burqa BanOct 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The French Senate approves Burqa Ban in France on Tuesday. The nation will now ban any type of veil that covers people face, including Burqa. That makes France the first European nation to draft such a law. The draft will be presented to the cabinet in the next month. The law will be more stringently observed in public places like hospitals and schools, and on public transport, and those seeking for public services. However, it will not be so rigidly observed on people who are just walking on the streets.

With a vote of 246 to 1 and with 100 abstentions, coming mostly from the left leaning politicians, the law was passed yesterday. According to Pew Global Attitudes Project Survey, conducted earlier this year, it was revealed that the French support the ban on Burqa, with a margin of four to one. That makes more that three fourth of the French population disapprove the system of wearing Burqa. The law was already approved by a huge margin in the lower house of the parliament in July. And now that it has been legally banned, the law will be enforced from the next spring.

The law will be applicable on both the permanent residents of France and also on the tourists. Junior family minister Nadine Morano announced that the law has to be respected by the tourists in France. French President Nicolas Sarkozy also backed it up and said that the law will be more rigidly observed in schools and town halls. Prime Minister Francois Fillon also believes in the ban and said that he would like to take a legal risk against the existing law of ” freedom of religion”. Nadine Morano believes that the Burqa system works against the dignity of women and equality of the sexes. That is not something that France would like to approve.
