Budget session begins on stormy note in Bihar
February 22nd, 2010 - 5:28 pm ICT by IANSPatna, Feb 22 (IANS) The month-long budget session of the Bihar assembly began here Monday on a stormy note with opposition members raising slogans against the government on several issues.
Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal and Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) members created an uproar when Bihar Governor Devanand Konwar began the customary address to the joint sitting of the state legislature on the opening day of the session.
The RJD and CPI(ML) members tried to read out a parallel address in the house amidst uproar.
The opposition has resolved to corner the government on several fronts, including that of assembly Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhry allegedly violating constitutional norms, seeking support for the Mahadalit rally organised Sunday by the ruling Janata Dal-United.
The opposition lawmakers say they will raise various issues including the multi-crore-rupee excise scam, deteriorating law and order situation, last week’s Supaul firing and the killing of 12 people by Maoists in Jamui district with state police machinery remaining a mute spectator.
