Budget disappointing for farmers: Badal

February 28th, 2011 - 6:28 pm ICT by IANS

Chandigarh, Feb 28 (IANS) Parkash Singh Badal, chief minister of Punjab, the state that contributes the maximum food grains to the national kitty, Monday termed the union budget as a “disappointing” one for farmers.”The budget 2011-12 is totally directionless and disappointing without giving relief to any section of the society. The budget is anti-farmer and it will dampen growth. There is no scheme to promote agriculture,” he said.

In a statement here, Badal said the budgetary proposals were completely lacklustre as these did not specify bold initiatives required to tackle the problems of inflation, unemployment, poverty being faced by the poor in the country besides addressing the issues of farmers.

Badal said the proposals contained in the finance minister’s speech would further unleash inflationary trends and take prices to unprecedented heights, even as the price rise had already broken the back of the poor.
