Lucknow, March 11 (IANS) The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Thursday summoned senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh government with an action plan for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) March 15 rally in the state capital.
A division bench comprising Justices Pradeep Kant and Shabihul Hasnain directed several senior officials, including the commissioner, deputy inspector general of police, divisional railway manager and district magistrate to appear before the court Friday to explain the arrengements.
The court’s directives came on a public interest lawsuit (PIL) jointly filed by lawyers S.L. Pandey and Basant Lal, contending that the upcoming BSP rally should not be allowed as it would cause law and order problems and also create a lot of nuisance and problems for the public, particularly the students appearing for their board exams.
Chief Minister Mayawati last week had announced the party’s rally.
She said the rally was being organised on the occasion of birth anniversary of party founder Kanshi Ram and was aimed at reaching out to the people to apprise them of the programmes and policies of the party.
Mayawati said the rally was to coincide with silver jubilee of the foundation of BSP on April 14, 2009, but it could not be held because of Lok Sabha elections. The BSP, which was founded on April 14, 1984, completed 25 years last year.
