BSP MLA gets life for engineer’s killing (Lead)

Lucknow, May 6 (IANS) A court here Friday sentenced to life Uttar Pradesh’s ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Shekhar Tiwari along with eight others for the 2008 lynching of a Public Works Department (PWD) engineer in Auraiya town.
The trial court held Tiwari and eight others, including a policeman, guilty for the death of engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta in Auraiya town in central Uttar Pradesh.
Gupta was lynched Dec 24, 2008 when Tiwari was allegedly extorting money for Chief Minister Mayawati’s birthday celebrations.
