London, May 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) After Gordon Brown’s resignation yesterday, David Cameron has become the new Prime Minister of Britain. Mr. Cameron had won the historic British election earlier this month, but he needed the support of the Liberal Democrats to bag the UK’s top job for the Conservatives again. The 43 years old David Cameron, has a remarkable history in politics.
And his rise to the Prime Minister’s office has been quite remarkable to say the least. In 2005, Mr. Cameron was chosen as a surprise choice for the Conservatives during the elections. Though he lost in that election, Mr. Cameron had been credited with reversing the fortunes of the Conservative Party, that has now resulted in their winning in the recently concluded elections. And they are all set to form the new government on Tuesday.
Winning has generally been a habit with Mr. Cameron. He only lost the 1997 parliamentary election and but all the same won it in 2001. He rose to become the leader of the Conservatives in 2005, and critics say he cynically moved his party to the center ground to win the recent election. But Mr. Cameron has always described himself as a “Liberal Conservative”.
