Los Angeles, July 15 (DPA) Yet another chapter has been opened in the seemingly unending dramas swirling around Republican political star Sarah Palin.
On Wednesday her teenage daughter Bristol Palin, 19, announced in a gossip magazine that she has gotten engaged to the formerly-estranged father of her baby Levi Johnston, 20.

Palin’s pregnancy created a huge scandal during the vice-presidential bid of her mother in late 2008. She and Johnston were previously engaged but broke up just two weeks after their baby Tripp was born in December 2008, sparking a nasty media spat between Johnston and the Palin family.

The couple told UsWeekly gossip magazine that they reconnected when they met recently to discuss custody arrangements and decided to get married without consulting their parents.

“It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be,” said Bristol Palin of her mother. “Hopefully she will jump on board.”

Palin and her husband Todd issued a luke-warm reaction to the news Wednesday: “Bristol at 19 is now a young adult,” they told the Today show.

“We obviously want what’s best for our children. Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.”
