Brij Lal to be Uttar Pradesh police chief
October 1st, 2011 - 1:17 am ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 30 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh top police official Brij Lal has been named as the state’s new director general of police.
A decision to the effect was taken by Chief Minister Mayawati around midnight, when the present incumbent R.K. Tiwari attained superannuation. Brij Lal will assume office on Saturday.
An officer of the 1977 batch of the elite Indian Police Service (IPS), Brij Lal was currently posted as special director general of police (law and order). He has held many key positions during his distinguished career of 34 years.
Born in 1955 , the officer was only 22 at the time of entry and he therefore has four years to retire from service.
Widely known for his tough policing and daredevil acts, Brij Lal was always rated as a top cop, with more than a 100 daylight encounters to his credit.
