Boston Mayor Thomas Menino Boston, Nov 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has won an unprecedented fifth consecutive four-year term, defeating his nearest rival Michael Flaherty, very easily.

When 95 percent of precincts reported, then sitting mayor Menino had 57 percent of the vote to City Council President Michael Flaherty’s lame 43 percent. Michael Flaherty had no choice, but to concede the election.

Menino has already been in office for an amazing 16 1/2 years, longer than anybody in the city’s extravagant history.

“To my campaign leadership, all the staff, hundreds of volunteers, thank you for spreading our positive message and for turning Beantown into Greentown,” Menino said last night, referring to his green campaign signs. “It’s important to have an administration that knows how to handle these difficult times,” he said. “People thought 2009 was difficult, but I think 2010 will be difficult, too, if not more difficult.”

“I wanted to deliver one for you so badly today,” Flaherty told disappointed backers. He added, “This is not the end. What we’ve learned tonight is that change takes time.”
