Kolkata, April 17 (IANS) Backing senior Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Gautam Deb’s allegation that the Trinamool Congress was using black money, touted as public donations, for the coming West Bengal assembly elections, ruling Left Front chairman Biman Bose Sunday demanded that the Election Commission probe the matter.
“EC should go into it. It must investigate why such allegations are being made. People are flying in helicopters to campaign all over the state.
“How are they (Trinamool) meeting the expenses of helicopters? They must show it in their accounts for the elections. If some company has given them helicopters free of cost, then why they have done so needs to be probed,” Bose told media persons here.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and Bharatiya Janata Party stlalwarts Lal Krishna Advani, Narendra Modi, Nitin Gadkari were among those who have been using helicopters for canvassing.
Bose said Deb’s allegation that the Trinamool was spending a huge amount was based on facts and definite information.
Deb had Saturday alleged that all but one of the 226 Trinamool candidates have been given Rs.15 lakh each in cash, and later coupons of Rs.100, 200 and 500 each were issued to them purportedly to show that the money was collected from the public.
The Trinamool has already denied the charges.
