Bolivian president has knee surgery
November 8th, 2010 - 9:32 am ICT by IANSLa Paz, Nov 8 (IANS/EFE) Bolivian President Evo Morales has undergone surgery on his left knee, a media report said.
Morales, 51, underwent the surgery at a clinic in Cochabamba city, the official ABI news agency reported Sunday.
The president will have to get rest for three weeks after the surgery, which took place Saturday night and lasted for about three hours, the report said.
“The president, due to his intense daily and sports activity, was having pains in the anterior region of his left knee that had developed over a long time” and so “a medical board in recent days recommended the procedure,” it said.
“It was an old and chronic ailment that had hindered him not only from pursuing sports activities, but caused ongoing pain and difficulty in walking.”
Morales is a big soccer fan and plays regularly.
