Black money running parallel economy: Tripura chief minister
August 15th, 2011 - 2:22 pm ICT by IANSAgartala, Aug 15 (IANS) A nexus between politicians, top bureaucrats and corporate managers was trying to govern India, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said Monday while expressing concern at increasing corruption in the country.
“There are no effective steps to check the endless looting of the nation’s wealth. Black money is running a parallel economy in the country,” Sarkar said after unfurling the tricolour at the Assam Rifles ground here.
He said the Tripura government had tamed the four-decade problem of terrorism and made progress in the fields of agriculture, education, health, communication and rural development to fulfil the basic needs of the people.
People came out in large numbers across the state to participate in the 65th Independence Day celebrations, defying the boycott call by militant groups, the Tripura People’s Democratic Front.
“Thousands of militants have joined the mainstream of life and those who are in the path of violence must come to the normal life and help government for all round development of the society,” Sarkar said.
