‘Black marketing’ of match tickets figures in Punjab house

Chandigarh, March 26 (IANS) Law makers in Punjab Saturday slammed the alleged black marketing of tickets for the World Cup semi-final match between India and Pakistan in Mohali March 30 and blamed the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for the non-availability of tickets for fans.

They also complained about legislators being deprived of tickets for the match.

“We are also keen to watch India-Pakistan match in the stadium with our family members but unfortunately no tickets are available. The PCA has made it a family affair and black marketing of tickets is going on without any check,” said Love Kumar Goldy, a Congress legislator, in the state assembly.

“We strongly condemn it and demand an immediate action against the accused people,” he said.

Harminder Singh Jassi, another Congress legislator said: “The situation is very bad and black marketers have made huge profits. They are working hand in gloves with various senior officials. No ticket is available in the market and all cricket fans are disappointed.”

“Now the tickets are not even available in the black market. All of them have gone to their favoured people,” said Jassi.

There were heated arguments over the alleged sale of tickets in black market that also disrupted the proceedings of the assembly.

With arch rivals India and Pakistan set to clash Wednesday at Mohali, some 10 km from here, prices of tickets for the big match are said to have soared in the black market.

While a Rs.250 ticket was allegedly being sold on the sly for Rs.3,000, a Rs.500 ticket was available for over Rs.6,000. A Rs.1,000-ticket was allegedly being sold by black marketers at Rs.10,000-15,000.

The PCA stadium is considered one of the most ultra-modern in India. It was built in 1992, and can accommodate 28,000 spectators.
