New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing Tuesday attacked Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s car as it was entering the Foreign Correspondent’s Club, where the Hurriyat conference leader was to attend a seminar.
“As soon as we got the news about his presence at the seminar, about 50 activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) assembled outside the venue and we started shouting slogans against the Mirwaiz. We will contiue our protest,” said Anuj Sharma, an activist.
Some of the demonstrators hurled eggs, water bottles and stones at the Mirwaiz’s car, damaging its windscreen.
About one company (120 personnel) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Delhi Police personnel escorted the Mirwaiz to the venue of the seminar.
“We are trying to remove the agitators from the place and if they do not move, they might be arrested,” a senior police officer said.
However, the BYJM activists vowed to continue their protests after the seminar is over.
“We will continue to protest the Mirwaiz’s presence. Why should he be allowed to participate in any programme as he has an anti-India agenda,” Sharma said.
