BJP workers held in Tamil NaduMay 2nd, 2008 - 5:15 pm ICT by admin
Chennai, May 2 (IANS) Over 40 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists, including former union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, were arrested in Tamil Nadu Friday during the party’s nationwide stir against price rise. Though most of the action was limited to the BJP stronghold of Kanyakumari district with party workers holding up traffic, pelting stones at government buses, there were also reports of skirmishes between workers of the BJP and the ruling DMK elsewhere.
The state unit of the BJP claimed that besides Kanyakumari district, life had also come to a grinding halt in Coimbatore and Tirupur.
However, government officials said normal life was unaffected in the state except for stray incidents of violence.
