Bhopal, Aug 11 (IANS) Over 5,000 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers here courted arrest Monday to protest the Jammu and Kashmir government’s decision to take back the land allotted to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. They were released soon after. Earlier, addressing a public meeting, party leaders held the Congress-led government responsible for the present situation in Jammu. The BJP rules Madhya Pradesh.
“The state government initially allotted the land to the shrine management to provide facilities to pilgrims. Following protests in the Kashmir Valley, it rescinded the decision under pressure from the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government, leading to protests in the Jammu region”, a BJP leader said.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were former BJP chief ministers Sunderlal Patwa and Kailsh Joshi, BJP vice president Vikram Verma, general secretary Makhan Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Raghunandan Sharma and Maya Singh.
