Thiruvananthapuram, April 10 (IANS) Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani has assured support to the central government to ensure that the Lokpal (ombudsman) Bill is passed in the budget session of parliament beginning mid-July.”I got a call from (Finance Minister) Pranab Mukherjee and I have assured him the full support of my party for it. The bill just should not just be presented in parliament but also be passed,” said Advani while addressing a party meeting in Kerala’s capital city Saturday night.
“The success of Anna Hazare’s fast to get the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government accede to his demands on the Lokpal Bill is a fitting bonus to the month-long effort of the BJP-led opposition parties to get the government form the JPC (joint parliamentary committee) to probe the (spectrum allocation) corruption scandal,” added Advani.
He also hit out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and said that he had a good image before he took up the top post.
“Now everybody has the impression that he is presiding over the most corrupt government in independent India,” added Advani.
Advani and other top party leaders are in the state to campaign for for the polls April 13 to elect 140 legislators. The BJP is yet to open its account in the assembly.
