New Delhi, Dec 7 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday appealed to Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao to end his indefinite fast for a separate Telangana state and accused the Congress of dealing the situation in an “immature and irresponsible manner”.
BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu called upon the Congress, in power both in Hyderabad and New Delhi, to take an early decision on the creation of a separate Telangana state.
“It is not a demand that has risen on the spur of moment. The Congress entered into an (electoral) agreement with the TRS in 2004 and benefited,” said Naidu, adding that hundreds of people lost their lives in the earlier agitations for Telangana.
The Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh again saw violence Monday as the TRS chief’s fast entered the ninth day.
Appealing to the TRS chief to give up his indefinite fast, the BJP leader said: “Telangana is now a larger political issue and support for it is very clear. The agitation can continue and methods can be devised to build pressure inside and outside (parliament).”
