Bharatiya Janata Party Lucknow, Aug 16 (IANS) Accusing the Congress-led central government of trying to suppress anti-graft campaigns in the country, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Uttar Pradesh unit Tuesday announced state-wide demonstrations against the arrest of social activist Anna Hazare.

“In all the 72 districts of the state, demonstrations would be carried out Wednesday under the campaign ‘Bhrashtachar hatao, loktantra lao (Down with corruption, long live democracy),” BJP state spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak told reporters here at a press conference.

“During the demonstrations, our party activists will apprise the public about corrupt activities of the central government. We will start the demonstrations at around 11 a.m.,” he added.

According to party officials, several BJP central leaders would be leading the protests in various parts of Uttar Pradesh.

“Anna Hazare has been arrested at the behest of the union government, which can resort to any mean for gagging voices being raised against corruption,” said Pathak.
