New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) The BJP Tuesday termed the Manmohan Singh government basically a “Congress government” following decision of Trinamool Congress to withdraw support and said it would talk to its allies on whether a special session of parliament should be called for the government to prove its majority.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad termed the Congress as “arrogant” and said the government had not talked to its own allies on decisions such as hiking diesel prices and allowing foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail.

“Not to speak of opposition, even allies were not talked to. There is arrogance. There is arrogance in Congress DNA,” Prasad told media persons here

He said Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had said that recent economic decisions had been taken to divert attention from the “coal scam.”

“We also said that…Decisions have been taken in hurry. Manmohan Singh government is now basically a Congress government,” he said.

Prasad said the party will talk to allies to see if there was need to make a demand for calling special session of parliament to ask the government to prove its majority.

“It’s (government’s) other decisions will also cause trouble to people,” he said.

Prasad also told Times Now channel that the countdown for the government had begun.

Banerjee Tuesday announced her party will withdraw support to the Congress-led UPA government.

She told a news conference in Kolkata that Trinamool’s six ministers — one cabinet and five ministers of state — would submit their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday.
