Mumbai, March 13 (IANS) After boycotting the pre-budget tea party hosted by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, the Bharatiya Janta Party and Shiv Sena met Sunday to mend differences that have cropped up between them over links with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), party sources said.
The meeting, attended by top officials from BJP and Shiv Sena, including Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse and Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray.
The differences had cropped up following senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde Feb 6 floating about a tripartite alliance between his party, the Shiv Sena and the MNS, headed by Raj Thackeray, the estranged nephew of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.
Both MNS and Shiv Sena had snubbed Munde saying that they were not interested in any alliance.
Bal Thackeray had also ruled out the possibility in strongly-worded editorials in the party’s mouthpiece Saamna.
A senior Shiv Sena leader, confirming the meeting, said that both the parties are sure to come to a consensus because the Mumbai civic polls are barely a year away.
