Raipur, Dec 17 (IANS) Chhattisgarh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which says it is fighting the civic bodies polls with limited resources, has hired three helicopters for the election campaign.
“We have taken development schemes to village-level since the BJP formed the government in December 2003. Now we want to reach out to the maximum number of voters through ‘chopper campaign’,” a BJP leader told IANS.
“One chopper is being used by Chief Minister Raman Singh. Another is with some key leaders. The third is expected to be available within a day or two,” the source added.
The Congress is banking on cycles, motorcycles and four-wheelers for campaigning.
“We have very limited budget. We are banking on door-to-door campaign to expose the BJP’s corrupt rule,” said Ramesh Varlyani, the state Congress general secretary.
Chhattisgarh goes to polls Dec 21 to elect 14 nagar palika and 87 nagar panchayats. Voting for 12 nagar palika and 32 nagar panchayats and all the nine nagar nigams will be held Dec 23. The vote count is due Dec 27.
