Bharatiya Janata Party New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday announced an alliance with the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) led by Kuldeep Bishnoi for the forthcoming by-election to the Hisar Lok Sabha seat.

The alliance was announced at a joint press conference addressed by BJP president Nitin Gadkari, party leader Sushma Swaraj and Bishnoi, who is HJC founder Bhajan Lal’s son.

The leaders from the two parties announced that the alliance would remain in the next state assembly elections and the Lok Sabha polls.

“There was talk of fighting the assembly and Lok Sabha polls together,” Gadkari said.

He expressed optimism that the alliance would come to power in the state in the next assembly polls and win all 10 Lok Sabha seats as well.

Gadkari said the parties will jointly launch struggles against “misrule” of the Congress government in Haryana.

The HJC is a breakaway faction of the Congress founded by late former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal.

Sushma Swaraj said the BJP will fight eight of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state as part of the alliance between the two parties and contest half of the assembly seats.

She said the party will support the HJC candidate in the Hisar Lok Sabha bypoll scheduled for Oct 13.

“The post of chief minister will be rotated between the two parties for two and half years.

“For the first two-and-a-half years, the chief minister will be from Janhit Congress and deputy chief minister from the BJP. Then the post of chief minister will be with the BJP,” Sushma Swaraj said.

Bishnoi termed the alliance as “natural” and said people wanted it to happen. “It was the need of time,” he said.

He said the alliance of the two parties would defeat the Congress and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) headed by Om Prakash Chautala.

Bishnoi said his party will announce its candidate for the by-election Sunday in Hisar.

The bypoll is being held following the death of Bhajan Lal in June. He was the only non-Congress candidate to win a Lok Sabha seat from Haryana in 2009.

The by-election is crucial for Bishnoi as he has staked claim to his father’s political legacy.
