BJP expels six Jammu and Kashmir legislators

Jammu, Oct 9 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled six of its legislators for cross-voting in April’s legislative council polls in Jammu and Kashmir, party sources said Sunday.
The decision was taken by the parliamentary board in New Delhi Saturday, party sources told IANS.
The BJP had faced embarrassment April 13 when seven of its legislators violated the party whip and voted for the National Conference-Congress alliance candidates instead of party nominee Thakur Ranjit Singh.
Thakur polled only four votes, though the party strength in the assembly was 11.
Following this, one lawmaker, Chaman Lal Gupta, was expelled from the party in May while the remaining six were suspended.
The fresh expulsion comes within days of the conclusion of the autumn session of the assembly in Srinagar where Congress had questioned the presence of “tainted” BJP lawmakers in the house.
