BJP, CPI-M welcome suspension of MPs

New Delhi, March 9 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India -Marxist (CPI-M) welcomed Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari’s decision to suspend seven MPs disrupting the house and asked the government to discuss and pass the women’s quota bill Tuesday itself.
Furious at the continuous disruptions over the bill, Ansari had Tuesday suspended Samajwadi Party’s Kamal Akhtar, Veerpal Singh Yadav, Amir Alam Khan and Nand Kishore Yadav, Janata Dal-United’s (JD-U) Ejaz Ali, Lok Janshakti Party’s (LJP) Sabir Ali and Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Subhash Prasad Yadav for the remaining part of the session.
“It is a right constitutional decision,” BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told IANS.
He added: “There is no logic to delay the bill. The bill should be discussed and passed today itself.”
CPI-M leader Basudeb Acharia said: “We welcome the decision. They were suspended because of the misbehaviour.”
“Now there will not be any problem. It should be passed today itself.”
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned six times Monday. The voting, which was supposed to be held at 6 p.m., had to be postponed after a handful of opposition members protested its passage, and is now scheduled for Tuesday.
Indications are that there will be a debate when the Rajya Sabha meets at 2 p.m. to be followed by voting on the bill.
