Raipur, Oct 20 (IANS) Chhattisgarh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the main opposition Congress Tuesday announced candidates for the bypoll to Vaishali Nagar assembly seat scheduled for Nov 7.
After hectic lobbying, the BJP selected local heavyweight Jageshwar Sahu while the Congress has backed Bhajan Singh Nirankari for the lone assembly seat for which bypoll is being held.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has announced that it would not put up a candidate for Vaishali Nagar seat. The party also said that it will not support any party or Independent candidate.
The poll for the Vaishali Nagar seat in Durg district was necessitated after sitting legislator of the BJP Saroj Pandey got elected to the Lok Sabha in May and vacated the seat.
