Lucknow, Nov 30 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will Dec 15 launch a month-long, state-wide campaign against the “misgovernance and corrupt practices” of Uttar Pradesh’s ruling Bahujan Samaj Party, BJP state unit chief Surya Pratap Shahi said Tuesday.
“We are going to undertake the ‘Gaon Chalo, Galli Chalo’ campaign against the Mayawati government from Dec 15 to Jan 15 in a massive way. During the campaign, our activists would fan out in various directions of Uttar Pradesh, and apprise the public about the Mayawati government’s misrule,” Shahi told reporters at a press conference.
“During the campaign, the grim picture of Uttar Pradesh’s development would be presented before the masses. We would appeal to the public to ask the chief minister about new developmental projects she undertook after coming to power in 2007.
“It’s been more than three years she (Mayawati) assumed the power. Still, she has not taken adequate measures to improve civic amenities across Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, she has also miserably failed in maintaining law and order in the state. In terms of development, she (Mayawati) has only set up memorials and parks in the name of Dalit icons”.
Shahi said leaders of the party’s central leadership would also participate in the upcoming campaign aimed to “unmask the Mayawati government”.
