BJD to join Third Front after Orissa trust vote: Deve GowdaMarch 10th, 2009 - 9:36 pm ICT by IANS
Bangalore, March 10 (IANS) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has said he will join the Third Front without any condition after Wednesday’s trust vote in the state assembly, former prime minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) chief H.D. Deve Gowda said here Tuesday.
“I talked to Naveen Patnaik this morning. He told me that ‘after the trust vote, certainly I am going to join the Third Front. There is no condition’,” Deve Gowda told reporters on the sidelines a function at the JD-S office here.
The JD-S leader is organising a rally Thursday near Tumkur, around 70 km from here, which will be addressed by leaders from the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI), Telegu Desam, Telengana Rashtra Samiti, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Forward Bloc and AIADMK.
The rally will mark the beginning of the process of firming up the Third Front ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in April-May.
Deve Gowda predicted major political developments at the national level by April 16, when the voting begins in the five-phase Lok Sabha polls.
“Many parties now in the (Congress-led) United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and the (Bharatiya Janata Party-led) National Democratic Alliance (NDA) may join the Third Front,” Deve Gowda said.
Patnaik broke off the 11-year-old alliance with the BJP over seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls in Orissa.
The BJP retaliated by withdrawing support to his government which was reduced to minority. The CPI-M, CPI and other parties have come to Patnaik’s support ahead of Wednesday’s trust vote.
