Bhubaneswar, March 27 (IANS) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday announced several sops for farmers and youths if it retains power in the next month’s assembly elections in Orissa.
The 40-page manifesto released by Patnaik here announced that the party would provide free electricity to farmers as well as farm loans at interests as low as three percent.
The manifesto declared the creation of employment opportunities for 1.5 million young men and women.
It said steps would be taken to speed up industrialisation in the state and measures would be taken for establishing ancillary industries around mega projects and revival of sick industries.
The party also promised to take several steps to remove poverty and improve infrastructures. It said technical education institutes would be set up in all block headquarters.
It promised computer education in all schools with the provision of internet facilities. To boost tribal education, local dialects will be used in the schools in the tribal areas, it said.
In the health sector, the party announced it would establish at least one full-fledged hospital for every 5,000 people and cover the entire population in the state under health insurance cover.
Orissa will go to polls in two phases on April 16 and April 23 to elect 147 members to the assembly and 21 members to the Lok Sabha.
During the first phase, polling will be held in 10 Lok Sabha and 70 assembly segments.
