Patna, July 15 (IANS) An alert has been sounded for the arrest of former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Pappu Yadav, who has failed to surrender after his bail was cancelled by the Supreme Court in a murder case, police said Thursday.
Yadav, whose original name is Rajesh Ranjan, was sentenced to life for the murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) legislator Ajit Sarkar.

Bihar Police has alerted its officers to arrest him following the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) directive in this connection, a police officer said.

“Pappu Yadav is absconding after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail in early May. Neither has he surrendered nor has he heen arrested by police after his bail was cancelled,” a police officer told IANS here.

The Purnia district police has requested all district superintendents of police in Bihar to help it arrest Pappu Yadav.

“The CBI took Purnia police to task for not arresting Yadav, who is absconding despite his bail being cancelled by the apex court over two months ago,” a police officer said.

Yadav is a former Lok Sabha member from Madhepura in Bihar. He was granted bail by the Patna High Court in February 2009 but it was cancelled by the Supreme Court May 3 this year.

Special CBI Judge B.M. Srivastava Feb 14, 2008 pronounced Yadav, former independent legislator Rajan Tiwari and another accused, Anil Yadav, guilty and sentenced them to a life term for the murder.

Sarkar, a firebrand CPI-M legislator, was gunned down in Purnia town June 14, 1998. The trial started in 2002.
