Bihar assembly’s monsoon session begins - peacefully
June 26th, 2009 - 1:59 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Patna, June 26 (IANS) Neither display of placards nor shouting of slogans against the Nitish Kumar-led government — the month-long monsoon session of the Bihar assembly began on a different note Friday. Peacefully.
Contrary to past practice, when the opposition normally created ruckus in the house, the first day of the session saw the formal commencement marked by a brief address by the speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary following which he ordered adjournment for the day.
However, the session is expected to be stormy in the coming days with opposition parties determined to corner the state government on “the deteriorating law and order situation” in the state.
The opposition leaders made it clear that they would raise issues of public interest and “expose” the 44-month-old National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
Abdul Bari Siddiqui, state president of the main opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), said crimes like kidnapping, murder, extortion and loot were continuing as usual, besides an increase in corruption in development works. “The coming days of the session will be stormy,” he told IANS.
The legislators of opposition parties the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (CPI-ML), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) were present in Friday’s peaceful session besides the ruling NDA constituents.
The monsoon session will end on July 29.
