Bengal polls: Mamata urges Congress for alliance

Kolkata, Feb 20 (IANS) Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee Sunday appealed to the Congress to ally with her party to jointly fight the coming West Bengal assembly elections.”We want a grand alliance of common people. We appeal to the Congress to come forward and form an alliance with us,” Banerjee said at a Trinamool Congress rally here.
“I also appeal to the SUCI (Socialist Unity Centre of India-Communist) from this stage to join the alliance,” she said.
“For the change in the state, there is a need for a grand alliance of the people,” the leader said.
In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress had forged an alliance with the Congress and the SUCI.
