Bengal killings, political clashes totally unacceptable: Pranab

Kolkata, Jan 10 (IANS) Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Monday described as “totally unacceptable” the escalating political violence in West Bengal and hoped that peace would be established.”It is very unfortunate and totally unacceptable that every day there will be killings and political clashes will increase,” Mukherjee told mediapersons on the sidelines of a programme at the Indian Institute of Management (Calcutta).
He said Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram was in touch with the state administration and particularly Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on the law and order issue.
“I do hope violence will stop and peaceful atmosphere will be established,” he said.
The law and order situation in the state has come under the central government’s scrutiny following rising political clashes, and especially after the Jan 7 killing of seven villagers in Netai of West Midnapore district in violence allegedly unleashed by miscreants backed by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
