Kolkata, May 13 (IANS) Industrialists in West Bengal Friday hailed the victory of the Trinamool Congress-Congress combine in the 2011 assembly polls saying it will create new confidence for investment in the state.

“By all means, it is a great moment for democracy. My heartiest greetings and congratulations to Mamata Banerjee for so courageously passing her ‘agni pariksha’ (trial by fire). This is not the time to ask what she can do for us, but to tell her what we can do to help her regain Bengal’s lost glory,” said R.P. Goenka, chairman emeritus, RPG Enterprises.

“What was being expected by many for some time has happened - along with Mamata Banerjee, democracy has triumphed in our state. The 2011 voting is an eye-opener to the rest of world, creating new confidence in Bengal,” said Sanjiv Goenka, vice chairman, RPG Enterprises.

“I continue to be committed to investing strongly in the state,” he added.

Ambuja Realty chairman Harshavardhan Neotia called it a “decisive mandate for change”.

“It is evident that people have reposed their faith in Mamata Banerjee’s promise. Trinamool Congress’ manifesto is certainly very positive. All out efforts need to be made to achieve the manifesto objectives. It will certainly catalyse faster growth and development of the state.

“It is encouraging to note that many non-political people from different walks of life have been brought into the fray including an industry veteran such as Amit Mitra. This gives added confidence,” he added.

Kolkata-based Ruia Group chairman Pawan K. Ruia termed it a “historic change”.

“I expect this government to come up to the expectation of the masses. A comprehensive mandate such as this, I am sure, will be very helpful in pushing through the major initiatives of the government. What we need today from the new dispensation is an industry friendly policy, and the government must vigorously follow this policy to turn the state into an attractive destination for investment,” he added.

“It is a victory for democracy and for the people of West Bengal, who have clearly and overwhelmingly voted against non-performance,” said P. Roy, director general of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
