bjpBangalore, India, Apr 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) What was being anticipated, happened in Bangalore’s civil body poll on Monday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win 122 wards reportedly, of the 194 wards of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP). The opposition Congress party has managed to grab 61 seats and JD(S) has registered victory in 14 seats. 7 seats went to the independents and others. The ruling party of the State, BJP seemed jubilant with the success as it is for the first time that the party has been able to get to power in the civic body.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) which held its election on March 28, had around 1,336 candidates contesting for the civic polls. The counting of the votes started on Monday, Apr 5, at 8 pm in the morning. Party supporters started flocking outside the counting centers and waited anxiously for the results to be declared which was expected around 2 pm in some centers. However, few centers started the counting late due to exams that were scheduled there. From the beginning of the counting, the BJP was leading by a huge margin and towards noon it became all most clear that the saffron brigade will get to power.

After the win, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa reportedly thanked the voters for their support and promised that the new civic body will try to make Bangalore a “model city”. The overwhelmed Chief Minister also added that he would devote few hours every day for the development of the city. However, after the BBMP result was out, the Congress party claimed that the government had put to use muscle power and other machinery to win the poll.
