Nov 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Barbara Boxer - the Democratic Senator of California managed to defeat her GOP rival Carly Fiorina in the senate race after some suspense filled hours and the outcome provided some relief to the ruling party that has suffered a setback in the midterm US elections. This was undoubtedly one of the most important and fiercely fought Senate races of the year. Barbara Boxer expressed her thanks to her supporters after winning the seat once more. She said that “This is my 11th straight election victory and what a sweet one it is”. Her rival Carly Fiorina was apparently not ready to concede defeat as it has been reported. Even when the counting was below 50 percent Barbara Boxer led by 7 percent over her opponent.
The win for Barbara Boxer means that she will be in her 4th term in the state. Her win is an exception to the Republican tide that has toppled many incumbent democrats. Though she was leading in some opinion polls the fight proved to be a tough one for her. Carly Fiorina resorted to hard hitting negative ads to bolster her prospects before the election. She also tried to bank on the unhappiness of the voters and tried to establish the fact that Barbara Boxer failed to improve the prospects of the state in her 28 year long tenure.
Barbara Boxer tried to retaliate at her opponent by saying she was a ruthless Corporate honcho who cannot connect with the common people and would never make a good leader. In Carly Fiorina’s tenure in HP 30000 workers were shown the door and thousands of jobs were outsourced. However, Barbara Boxer scored over her rival owing to the support she got from the President and first lady during her campaign.
