Nov 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The California Senate race proved to be one of the most eagerly watched one in this year’s midterm election. Incumbent Barbara Boxer of Democrats faced possibly the toughest challenger in the form of Carly Fiorina. The latter used to be the head of Technology giant HP a few years back. It is evident that Barbara Boxer had to fight really hard to retain her seat and the scathing attack of her opponent made only things harder for her before the election. The political climate was favoring the GOP and in many places they managed to trounce the incumbent Democrats. The ruling Democrats also lost the majority in the House. However, Barbara Boxer gained from the support she got from the US president and his wife during the election campaign.
The voters in USA are quite skeptical about the Obama administration’s plans to boost the economy and Barbara Boxer staunchly defended the Federal Stimulus program. Similarly she defended the health care reform which got the brickbats from the GOP. Her task was tough because she was pitted against a woman who ran a Corporate MNC that is listed in the top tech companies of the world. In the end however she managed to edge ahead of rival Carly Fiorina by a margin of almost 10 percent.
Barbara Boxer was visibly elated after the win and said to the reporters that she felt happy at being able to convince the voters. Possibly the fact that California is a state that still has better approval rating for Democrats helped her to swim against the GOP tide and succeed at the end.
