obama1Washington, May 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The President’s national security adviser, James Jones sent a letter to the Senate Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin in which it has been stated that Barack Obama will deploy a total of 1200 new troops in the southwestern U.S. - Mexico border. This new batch of military men are mostly intelligence and surveillance troops who will have to remain on the border areas as additional Border Patrol agents are given the requisite training back in the US.

The President has further requested an additional amount of $500 million to be used for the protection of the border areas and for a stronger enforcement of the country’s laws in those areas. This has come after the state of Arizona passed an immigration law in the recent past which culminated into a national debate in the United States.

It has been reported that Barack Obama took the decision after discussions were held with the Senate Republicans, with the country’s politicians saying that such a step could not have been realized without the support of the Republican Party. The President has tried his best but it is yet to see whether he can avoid criticism this time or not. Asa Hutchinson, the Homeland Security undersecretary during the presidency of George Bush said in a statement that the additional number of troops in the border areas may be of help to the country and the people but this is no way to solve the problem that dominates the border areas of the United States and Mexico. Most other politicians in the country agree with her perception of the number of troops being a temporary solution.
