Kolkata, March 1 (IANS) With the dates announced Tuesday for the West Bengal assembly polls, state election officials here said no government advertisement - be it that of the state government or the railways - showcasing their achievements can be published and hoardings carrying such advertisements have to be removed.
“None of the government achievements - be that of the state government or the railways - can be published from today (Tuesday) onwards and the advertisements or hoardings which are already there have to be removed,” deputy chief electoral officer N.K.Sahana said, refering to the model code of conduct which has come into force in the state.
Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress has thrown a firm challenge to the ruling Left Front in the polls.
The office of the chief electoral officer also said that all the candidates will have to submit an estimate of the expenses before organising any public meeting or rally. If the cost estimate is not provided, then the permission for the rally will not be given.
The complaint monitoring nodal officers and officials in charge of election in all the districts have been directed to keep video recordings of all the meetings.
“If there is a complain of violation of model code of conduct then we will check the video recording and we will send it to the election commission with a transcription in English,” said Sahana.
Sahana also said no government building, telephone posts and electric posts can be used for any posters or graffiti or cut outs. If there is a poster on any government building, the commission will remove it.
